solar food dehydrator number 6 is 10x better
solar-food-dehydrator.com We've been experimenting with solar food dehydrators for over 15 years, and we've finally found the best design, thanks to Uncle Mud! The angle of the glass is perfectly optimized for capturing the spring and fall sun. Plus, the rocks inside heat up during the day and keep the air circulating well into the night, extending the drying time by two to three times, even on cloudy days. And when the weather gets chilly, a small fire can warm up the rocks to keep things going.
We had a fun twist on the build-our pesky weed, knapweed, found a new purpose as insulation for the back wall, using a slip straw style.
Benefits of using a solar food dehydrator include:

Using a measuring stick to size the wood the same length makes the stacking work better. In the winter, racks of cordwood offer protection for the lab cats above and below the racks. I think it would be best to put down a connected layer of 1/4" to1/2" hardware cloth underneath. I also have pocket gophers and put the hardware cloth down in my root cellar and also on the bottom of each raised garden bed. They used to dig up in each bed and steal carrots etc... but not anymore. It's worth the expense and efforts, my opinion.
